About / mission and scope

Study the work inside Proof-of-Work.

Bitcoin mining is often reduced to repeated hashing. BTC PoW Lab studies what happens inside and around that process—and separates measurable results from speculation.

Mission

Measure first.
Claim last.

Our mission is to study Bitcoin Proof-of-Work rigorously, publish reproducible evidence and keep negative results in the scientific record.

We do not sell cloud mining, hashrate contracts or financial products. We operate BTC PoW Lab Pool as public infrastructure separate from the laboratory; we also make no promise to break SHA-256 or produce mining outcomes.

Starting conjecture

An open question—not a presumed shortcut.

The conventional baseline evaluates complete double-SHA-256 hashes and compares them with the network target. We start from a narrower scientific fact: no general lower-bound proof currently rules out every exact alternative with lower total cost in every legal mining context.

This does not shift the burden of proof. Any proposed advantage must remain exact, preserve consensus validity and beat an equivalent-work baseline after every operational cost is included. Establishing that can require preregistration, large datasets, independent replication and hardware campaigns that run for weeks or months.

Principles

Independent. Open where safe. Evidence-first.

Independent

Conclusions follow registered gates, not funding preferences.

Reproducible

Methods, baselines and limitations travel with the result.

Negative results included

Failed hypotheses remain useful and visible.

No exaggerated claims

Local signals are not labeled as mining advantage.

Research roadmap

Infrastructure, not promises.

Possible future research infrastructure includes distributed experiment participation, strategy simulation, shadow-mode experiments, ASIC telemetry and research-pool infrastructure.

Research roadmap — not product commitments. No dates or performance outcomes are promised.

Independent project disclaimer

BTC PoW Lab is not affiliated with Bitcoin Core developers, mining hardware manufacturers, mining pools or the Bitcoin project. Research is experimental and not financial, investment or operational advice.
